Voluntary Prekindergarten Education Program (VPK)

Florida’s Voluntary Prekindergarten Education Program or VPK is a free educational program designed to prepare 4-and 5-year-olds for kindergarten and build the foundation for their educational success.

Who is eligible?

Children who reside in Miami-Dade County who are four years old on or before September 1st. Parents may choose to wait to enroll their child for VPK until the following year for 4-year-olds with birthdays from Feb. 2 through Sept. 1 in a calendar year.

About Our Different Programs:

Miami-Dade County Public Schools VPK Title I Programs offer free, full-day (8:20AM - 1:50PM) prekindergarten for students who reside in a Title I school boundary.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools VPK Fee Supported Programs offer full day (8:20AM - 1:50PM) prekindergarten for students who reside in a Fee Supported school boundary. Parents are responsible for a fee for the second half of the day (11:20 a.m. to 1:50 p.m.).

Miami-Dade County Public Schools Pre-K Inclusion Programs offer free, full-day (8:20AM - 1:50PM) prekindergarten for 10 typically developing VPK students who serve as role models for 10 children identified as having a disability with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

Miami-Dade County Public Schools VPK Head Start Programs offer free, extended day (8:15 am - 3:05 pm) prekindergarten and comprehensive services to income eligible students and their families.

Schools with more eligible applicants than slots available, will make student selections utilizing a lottery system.

Use the VPK Portal online system to obtain a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to complete VPK registration.
